March 6th and March 9th 2009 Educational Performances are 10:00 am and 12:15 pm The O'Shaughnessy at The College of St Catherine 2004 Randolph,St Paul Tickets are $6.00 each and reservation can be made at 612-408-6781 or e-mail avaspecial@avaspecial.com Sweet Honey in the Rock is a national cultural institution dedicated to the preservation and celebration of Black culture.  Sweet Honey's message positions racism, sexism, and oppression as national wounds to heal.  Sweet Honey sings inspiring songs of tribute to civil and human rights activist such as Ella Baker,Stephen Biko, Fannie Lou Hammer, Malcolm X, Winnie Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr.   Sweet Honey will celebrate their 35th Anniversary in the Twin Cities and will offer students, ages 6-21, cultural, educational, and artistic activities. These activities will  include workshops, spoken word, poetry and poster art contests, as well as inspiring music performances.  The student's work will be honored at Sweet Honey's family and children's concert.  All Sweet Honey events are ASL interpreted. The Sweet Honey In The Rock Project is a unique opportunity to collaborate and celebrate the diverse communities in the Twin Cities. Those who are fortunate enough  to attend the performances by Sweet Honey In The Rock will have an enormous impact on their perceptions and beliefs about themselves, their communities, and the power of art.
